I have constant battles in my head about food. When I say constant I mean at least 10 times a day. I’ve already been a vegetarian forever but lately I’ve become somewhat obsessed with the idea of being vegan. I enjoy cheese with certain things, but mostly pizza. I think that would be my only issue. I have converted to only local ACTUALLY free range eggs. As in, a chicken who gets to roam around outside eating bugs and compost on a farm. They are expensive as hell but I’m completely ok with that. However it is nearly impossible to stay away from dairy and eggs that are simply ingredients in other foods. I obsessively look at ingredients to foods to see what’s in them. I’ve also become obsessed with the “natural flavors” thing in the ingredients list and trying to avoid it….but it’s in everything! Why can’t they just say what these flavors actually are? It totally grosses me out. I guess it’s not a bad thing that I’m becoming more aware of what I’m eating. That is actually a very good thing…as long as I can keep it within a zone of sanity and stop completely obsessing about it. It just makes me think about how many people just shop and eat without even thinking about what is in the food they are buying. Even things like salsa, juice, or peanut butter…things you would THINK would be healthy and have pretty basic ingredients, almost always have way more ingredients than they need, and many of which are chemicals that are definitely not good for you. This seems like obvious shit but so many people really have no idea. So back to being vegan, I already eat way less dairy than the average human being but it still feels like too much. I just wish it were easier to avoid dairy in things bought at the store without spending 800 bucks each time I shop. End rant.
